In June 1944, the regional philharmonic was organized. 70 years Kherson Regional Philharmonic is the main center of musical culture of the region. Many outstanding bands and performers, who are known today in Ukraine and abroad, began their careers here. In the 70s and 80s, the Philharmonic was considered one of the best in the former Soviet Union, and the world’s most talented performers came here on tour.

Today, the pride of Kherson is the Gilea Chamber Orchestra, created more than 35 years ago. From the first years of its existence, the Gilea Chamber Orchestra has been an active propagandist of world classical music, modern music, and works by Ukrainian composers, who have repeatedly entrusted the ensemble with the right to perform their works for the first time.
The orchestra was the first in Ukraine to perform Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony, Bartok’s Divertissement, and the symphonies of A. Ongeger and C. Ives. The band has a large touring concert practice.

In 1978 he became a laureate of the I Republican contest ”Golden Autumn” and has repeatedly confirmed this title at numerous festivals and competitions. The chamber orchestra performed with great success in many republics of the former Soviet Union, represented art in Bulgaria, Hungary, and Germany.
